Scyther

Description

If you've ever participated in competitive battling, then you should now that Scizor or Mega Scizor are almost always chosen over Scyther. They are built with more power, and have a great typing against Fairy Types. Scyther, however, shouldn't always be overlooked though. It has much better speed than its evolution, as well as accessing Technician as an ability. It does take quite some setting up, but if it does, Scyther can be just as lethal as Scizor.

Warrior13's 6th Generation Competitive Suggested Scyther Moveset

Item - Eviolite
Nature - Jolly
Ability - Technician
Effort Values - 48 HP / 176 Atk / 16 Def / 16 SpDef / 252 Speed

Moveset:
Roost
Swords Sance
Bug Bite
Aerial Ace

Summary: This is the usual moveset for Scyther that you will see, barring some differences in the Effort Value Spread. It all begins with Eviolite, which can bring both Scyther's Defenses to the 300 Base (should you run this spread with maximum Individual Values). It is usually best to switch on something fearful of Scyther, perhaps a Grass or Fighting Type, since you can get off a free Swords Dance to skyrocket your Attack Stat. Roost helps you recover any lost HP in the mean time. Both Bug Bite and Aerial Ace receiving both the Technician and STAB Increases, providing two viable attacks with great coverage.

Countering: Talonflame is your best choice is ruining Scyther, even it has been given the chance to setup with Swords Dance. Rock Types, as well as the trap Stealth Rock, also can do the trick.
