Well, my Gengar has some nasty surprises for its opponent.
Nature: Hasty
EVs: Speed: 252, Att: 252, HP: 6
Item: Focus sash
Moves:
Shadow Ball, Explosion, Hypnosis, Counter

It can first use counter-focus sash for a surprise KO on many physical sweepers. Then, it can use hypnosis on the second opponent. Then, the Gengar can use shadow ball to possibly KO a weaker opponent, or it can use explosion to KO most opponents. All in all, it can be a nasty surprise for many teams.

Hey everybody, want an awesome tip to win almost every battle? This attacks will be able to make you Gengar a killing machine..

First, use mean look to make sure your foe cannot escape. Now, use Perish song. You must wait three turns in order for your opponent to faint, so I suggest you use Hypnosis in order to not get any damage while you wait. While waiting you can use a Shadow Ball or any other attack you have and.. ta da! You've won!
This is still unproven by me, but I can almost guarantee it works, although I'm not sure if Mean Look evades a Pokemon from a Trainer to be switched.

I think that Gengar is one of the best ghost types. Mine could have better stats and better attacks too, but other than that I think it is a very suitable addition for my team.

Shadow Ball- An awesomely strong STAB attack
Dark Pulse- Nice dark attack..
Destiny bond- Amazingly good when in a sticky situation and does miracles thanx to Gengar's extreme speed
Thunder- Just a very strong thunder attack, to have some variety

This is (in my opinion)a great Pokemon. I personally prefer the following moveset.

Shadow Ball( For STAB and a powerful move)
Shadow Punch(For STAB and a sure hit on double teamers like Raichu)
Dream Eater( For resters)
Dark Pulse(For Super-Effective on pokemon like Girafarig)
Item: Spooky Plate/Blackglasses
